When watching the Olympics, it's hard not to imagine what could have been.

> Maybe if my elementary school physical education teacher had tempted us with popsicles at the end of our weekly 1 mile run, I might have ended up a distance-running Olympic Gold Medalist?

As we ogle the feats and talents of the Olympic athletes we see on the screen , let’s mull over a question:

If you had to participate in one sport in the Summer Games, which would it be?

Hmmmm, this is a tricky one for me @Lauren Benner because I had a very traumatizing experience with my PE teacher. I can essentially think of almost any sport we practiced and remember a scarring incident LOL. 😃

Now, ff I had a great PE teacher + access to a pool when growing up, I would have like to go for Swimming. I learned to swim when I was about 13 or 14 years old, and I had a great instructor, who used to say that my arm stroke technique was beautiful (though slow). 😛

I was the oldest girl in my class, and I was kind of terrified of doing anything, but I also loved every minute of it.
@Mariajose Balboa I agree with you on swimming! I'm not a swimmer but I imagine it's a sport that will benefit you in the long run because it's not as hard on your body as other sports might be. Again, I'm not an athlete though, so maybe someone will disagree with me. 😃
@Mariajose Balboa I'm glad I'm not alone in the PE trauma 😉

I swam for a while growing up! Wasn't the fastest but definitely held my own.

The "Turtle and the Hare" story totally applies to your arm stroke technique; slow, steady and beautiful wins the race?
Oh unlocking PE memories! My PE teacher once said "this will be the last mile more than half of you will run" during our senior year of high school. I remember thinking, "that won't be me" so let's make my Olympic participation in Running
HAHAHAHA, definitely @Lauren Benner
You're right @Sarah Lubecki And it works wonders for your breathing, allergies or any type of breathing-related condition.
@Mariajose Balboa your PE stories are really making me laugh and giving me flashbacks to my own scarring PE incidents in elementary school, half the reason I started playing sports was to get PE credit so I didn't have to do the classes!

Now that surfing is an Olympic sport, that would be mine! I grew up by the beach and always regretted not getting more into surfing, so happy to see Carissa Moore take home the gold!
Volleyball all the way! Court or beach doesn't really matter (unless the weather outside is bad. 🙂 ) Swimming is a close second though. Have you all heard of the "Olympic bump"? Typically the different sports will see an interest bump from kids (and adults I'm guessing), with registrations/tryouts. They like what they see on screen and want to see what it's about. Great for youth sports!
@"Meli Musson" you're so lucky! PE was mandatory in Elementary School in my country so I had to survive it until I graduated. 😂😬
Tug of war! It was actually an Olympic sport until 1920! I used to do this every year at Japanese school sports day and it was so much fun. Great team sport 🙂
Solo Synchronized Swimming! Mostly because I'm not very coordinated so if I had a partner, we would be very out of sync. If only I was at the '92 Olympics and was a decent swimmer, I totally would have taken home a participation trophy 🙂
@Mariajose Balboa - spot on with the swimming comments. After our daughter had her first asthma attack her doctor suggested swimming to help strengthen her lungs. We just had to watch out for some pool chemicals that were triggers, but all in all she LOVED the water!
Ohhh, so good to read @Kara Sheil ! 💜
I can't believe racquetball isn't an Olympic sport! It's the only sport in the world I would consider myself remotely above average at. Well, that's what I would pick. Maybe one day.
