Has anyone had experience with the email data feed setup where a data feed is queried only once during campaign setup?

https://support.iterable.com/hc/en-us/articles/204795659-Personalizing-Templates-with-Data-Feeds-#querying-a-data-feed-once-during-campaign-setup

I'm walking through the steps, and choosing "pre-populate selected template with data feed" at the "Select Template" stage doesn't actually field merge the data feed directly into the email.

There doesn't seem to be any difference between that and just choosing "Use selected template"

Iterable support assured me that "pre-populate selected template with data feed" will query the data feed once before send, but I'm reluctant to believe that since all of the language implies that Iterable would field merge the data feed directly into the email during setup.
Hi Daniel Tien. Just out of curiosity are you using the drag and drop editor?
Update: Michael hopped on a call with me (thanks, Michael!) And we basically confirmed that the "pre-populate selected template with data feed" does not work with the bee editor/drag and drop editor, but does work as intended for the WYSIWYG editor.

The email is indeed supposed to pull data from the data feed and merge it directly into the email template.
Thanks for the update @Daniel Tien, I'm glad you were able to connect with the Iterable team on this!
