“The brands that will thrive in the coming years are the ones that have a purpose beyond profit,” shares Richard Branson. And he’s completely right:

Today’s consumers care. They want to put their money where the mission is. They want to shop with sustainability. They will PAY for purpose!

While you’re sipping mulled wine and roasting chestnuts this evening, take a moment to reflect on mission-driven brands. In the comments below, let us know:

What is your favorite mission-driven brand? What makes them stand out?

*Share and get 5 points, PLUS, you’ll be entered into a raffle to win a Cotopaxi backpack and Dopp kit (we have 3 to give away, for your chances at winning are… statistically significant).

I'll go first! My favorite mission-driven brand is Reformation!

Reformation’s mission is to bring sustainable fashion to everyone. Sustainability is at the core of everything they do — “from our factory in Los Angeles to our fabrics, packaging and retail stores. We balance all of the water and waste used to make our stuff. Impressively, they’re a 100% carbon neutral company, committed to holding themselves and others to a high standard of impact.

Logon to their website, and you’re graced by a purpose-driven banner “We’ll be Climate Positive by 2025”. Order an item online and the package delivered will be small, low-impact and read “Being Naked is the #1` Most Sustainable Option. We’re #2”.

Best of all, Reformation tracks exactly what impact your purchases have on the environment in terms of water, carbon dioxide, and waste.

I'm willing to pay more for cute clothes from an environmentally conscious brand. (my wallet might not agree?)

As an ice cream enthusiast, my favorite mission-driven brand is Jenis! Not only do they make exceptionally delicious ice cream, but I always feel confident in the quality of the product as well as the company I am supporting in purchasing a cone or a pint. They are constantly promoting their partners they source ingredients from and have a focus on inclusivity & sustainability - they are a certified B corps and are working towards becoming zero waste in scoop shops. Even small things like their signature metal tasting spoons show these values in practice. They also really value their community of customers and definitely have created a strong culture amongst Jeni's-lovers.

I generally do not consider myself a consumer of premium products (and I can't deny Jeni's is definitely priced at a premium) but this is a brand that I love to support!! (It's no surprise I'm not alone)

I am quoting my wife here who is very passionate about this brand: "Our family likes Patagonia because they are very selective about their growth strategy and don't expand willy-nilly to flood the market and are very conscious and not just out there earning all the money they could. They try to limit ecological impact and their goods are meant to be used for generations and are recyclable."

Communication today is way more difficult than ever before. We communicate with people, we don't know a lot about them, and we do this with writing. Usually, we lose emotions, lose that context.

I want to give my rank to Grammarly. Their mission is to improve lives by improving communication. They have a dramatic impact on people's lives. They help them to achieve what they want to, new career, integrate into society, etc.

As for me, I am using the Grammarly app right now! And I believe it will lead many people to a better life.

Some companies can have a very polarizing view. Penzeys Spices owner Bill signs pretty much every email. Their Choose Love theme is pretty great, but he is also very unapologetic about his views on the rest of society. Like it or not he will take the opportunity to voice his opinion on most subjects, and I'm sure he has lost many customers that don't agree with him. But it is his company and he has chosen what it stands for, and goes to great lengths to explain his position.

Honestly I love Patagonia. They really put their money where their mouth is and do things like not advertising on platforms that seem to harm to fabric of society. I also love that you can trade in your old worn items and they'll up-cycle them into new things or repair them for you.

So Yeti.... love the quality of their coolers, mugs, even dog bowls....yes....I said dog bowls. But. A marketing model that no longer exists is one we really loved to support. I wish Tom's would bring back their Buy One, Give One model. Giving back to the community is super important to our family.
